How to Cook Chicken

How to Cook Chicken

There are plenty of ways to cook chicken, check out our recommendations below. Generally you can tell when chicken is cooked with is it no longer pink in the middle, and if the juices are running clear, however we recommend using a meat thermometer to test whether your chicken is cooked.

  • Roasting a whole chicken: 200C/180C fan/gas 6: 25 mins per 500g, plus an extra 25 mins
  • Baking: For chicken breast with the skin on we recommend frying until the skin is golden, 5-6 mins, then turn and cook for 1 min on the other side before baking at 220°C/200°C fan/gas mark 7 for 25 mins. For thighs you can fry on either side for five mins before adding to the oven at the same temperature.
  • Grill or barbecue: breast, 7-10 mins; cubes or strips, 5-7 mins; drumsticks and thighs, 25-30 mins; wings, 40 mins.
  • Stir-fry: cubes or strips, 5-7 mins.
